Heirs’ technically complex yet cunningly reductive sound set them apart from many other drone or post-rock outfits. Their rapid-fire aural assaults, subliminal melodies and cyclic junkyard drumming has the ability to drag you into something comparable to a drug-induced death trip or a slow descent into a Lovecraftian netherworld.
Influence has been drawn from Michael Gira and his Swans legacy, the sledgehammer riffs and industrial pummels of Godflesh, while glimmers of Neurosis and Isis can be detected through Heirs’ sound, especially on their debut album, Alchera, which was hailed one of the best instrumental/noise/doom albums of 2009.
Their 2010 album Fowl, is another leap forward for Heirs, a masterfully executed record; coarse, threatening guitar textures, displaying skillful restraint and precision. Incorporating disparate influences, the record seeks to create a sound that is uniquely their own.
The engulfing nature of Heirs’ tracks are able to transcend to a complete sensory experience in a live forum. Bring earplugs. Or don’t.
Local support comes in the form of the devastating Drowning Horse, doomsters Atolah, post rockers The Silent World, local noise-melder Craig McElhinney and RTRFM's Posted DJs.
